IWC Schaffhausen and Warner Bros Pictures: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

IWCSchaffhausen has partnered with the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures film, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," to launch theAquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month, inspired by the red and blue luminous watches supplied by the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer for the production of the long-awaited sequel to the film. This dive watch comes in two versions, each limited to 25 pieces, and features impressive 49-millimeter Ceratanium cases, black dials, and black rubber straps. One has red Super-LumiNova on the dial, hands and rotating inner flange, and the other has blue. Technical features include a perpetual calendar with digital date and month display, as well as a chronograph function. The IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber is visible through the sapphire crystal case back.

All people who go to the cinema these days to see Warner Bros. Picture's action-adventure film "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (showing in late December 2023) can expect to discover Schaffhausen's finest engineering in the underwater universe. IWC's experimental XPL division, which promotes cutting-edge developments in areas such as advanced materials or G-protection, has outfitted the villain Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Randall Park, with very special prop watches that glow red or blue. These prototypes inspired two extraordinary limited editions of the Aquatimer collection.

Director James Wan and Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, along with Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman, return in the sequel to the highest-grossing DC film of all time, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom." Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father's death, will stop at nothing to defeat Aquaman once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever, as he wields the power of the mythical Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former king of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they will have to put aside their differences to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman's family and the world from irreversible destruction.

Directed by Wan, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is produced by Peter Safran, Wan and Rob Cowan. The executive producers are Galen Vaisman and Walter Hamada. The screenplay is by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, from a story by James Wan and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa'a Sibbett, based on the DC characters, Aquaman created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. Joining Wan behind the camera is his exceptional team of "Aquaman" craftsmen: cinematographer Don Burgess, production designer Bill Brzeski, editor Kirk Morri, composer Rupert Gregson-Williams and music supervisor Michelle Silverman. Visual effects supervisor Nick Davis and costume designer Richard Sale also join.

Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month

TheAquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is available in two versions, both with black dials and black hands. Inspired by the luminous colors of the film's stage watches, the first (Ref. IW379405) features red Super-LumiNova on the dial, hands and inner rotating bezel indicating dive time, while the second is blue (Ref. IW379406).

Super-LumiNova is a high-tech ceramic compound mixed with light pigments that essentially acts as a light accumulator, using a physical phenomenon called phosphorescence. Light energy absorbed by sunlight or artificial light causes electrons in the material to enter a higher energy state, where this energy is stored. When the electrons return to their normal state, they emit the absorbed energy as visible light, making the material glow in the dark or underwater.

Both novelties feature cases, case back rings, crowns and pushers made of IWC's patented Ceratanium . With a case diameter of 49 millimeters, they are among the largest IWC watches ever produced.

Ceratanium is a performance material that combines the lightness and structural integrity of titanium with ceramic-like hardness and scratch resistance. It is based on a special titanium alloy forged to IWC's specifications. The case components are machined from bars, hand-finished, and fired at extremely high temperatures in a furnace. During this heat treatment, the surface acquires ceramic-like properties and also its characteristic color.

PERPETUAL CALENDAR WITH DIGITAL DISPLAY OF DATE AND MONTH

The main functional feature of these watches is the perpetual calendar with digital displays. The date and month are displayed with the help of rotating discs in digital format on the dial, making it particularly easy and intuitive to read. The perpetual calendar is mechanically programmed to automatically recognize the different length of months and leap years. As a result, the combination of "29" and "02" will appear on the dial only once every four years. IWC's IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber drives the calendar complication via a single night-switching pulse. The movement also offers a chronograph function, displaying combined stopped hours and minutes in a totalizer at 12 o'clock for better readability. The double-pawl winding system converts movements of the oscillating mass in both directions into energy for the mainspring, efficiently storing a 68-hour power reserve. The technically designed rotor has been blackened by an elaborate nickel-plating process and can be admired through the transparent sapphire crystal case back.

IWC SAFEDIVE SYSTEM ENSURES DIVER SAFETY

The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month features IWC's external/internal rotating bezel system for setting dive time, helping divers keep track of oxygen levels and making sure they don't return to the surface too quickly. It combines the improved readability of an inner bezel with the ease of use of an outer rotating bezel. The IWC SafeDive system prevents inadvertent changes in dive time because the outer bezel can only be moved counterclockwise. Even if a diver accidentally moves the bezel, the dive time is never extended and the time after which one can return to the surface without the need for decompression stops is not exceeded. Like all Aquatimer models, it is equipped with IWC's quick-change bracelet system, which allows easy changing of the black rubber strap.

The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is available at selected IWC boutiques. In addition, it can be registered under the My IWC service program, benefiting from a 6-year extension to the standard 2-year international limited warranty and comes with the My IWC Passport digital watch certificate.
