Rolex watches have long been favored by sheikhs, army officers, and the ruling party in the Middle East. Not surprisingly, these watches were also their favorite gifts, especially in the 1970s. During this period, Rolex received several special orders for dials bearing the crest of arms or the names of the royal family. Having never appeared at auction before, to the best of our knowledge, this correct reference 6263 features a dial customized with the UAE's Quraysh falcon. Made at the special request of Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai in the mid-1970s, the present watch was part of an order comprising several dozen pieces. There are many points of interest about this watch. First, the dial is in incredible condition and is very attractive. Made of embossed polychrome print, the emblem of the United Arab Emirates (the Quraysh falcon) is engraved at 12 o'clock.
