Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Tropical 25860ST. Tropical dials are appreciated both for their appearance and for their irony. What was a flawed dial has evolved to the point where it is more collectible than the same dial without the aforementioned "flaw." Basically, it is serendipity at its peak. While some brands have a number of watches on which tropicalization is known to occur (Rolex is one example over all, with tropical dials found on the early Submariner, GMT and Milgauss as well as the modern 116 520), this event is much rarer for Audemars Piguet . Not only is the number of references known to tropicalize much smaller, the best-known examples being Ref. 54 02, Ref. 15 002 and "The Beast" 25 721-but also the number of examples that tropicalize would seem, judging from the historical record, to be very small. The present example of ref. 25860 is already a representative of this rarefied-and therefore extremely collectible-category, but it can also be regarded as the rarest actualization to be found on Audemars Piguet pieces.
