ROLEX 6240

6240_1

This watch is to be considered as an experimental model, a prototype to test the new screw-lock chronograph pushers.

The screw buttons are to be considered a kind of prototype, never appearing in parts catalogs Rolex. They have a characteristic knurling, later referred to by collectors as "millerighe." Their housing in the casements is less pronounced than in models with pump buttons and is easily visible when looking at the back of the watch.

The Twinlock winding crown is also different from the one previously used, going from 6 to 7mm in diameter. This watch was unlucky: in its four years of life it garnered frequent negative reviews regarding the size of the case and the bulkiness of the screw-down chronograph pushers...found guilty of ruining shirt cuffs!

The ultimate introduction of screw-down buttons offers a Rolex a major advantage over its competitors. This feature allows the watch to be submerged even if the chronograph functions are disabled due to the screwed position of the pushers. This attracts buyers who flock to purchase Chronographs Rolex all over the world, thus ensuring the success of this model.

On the earliest productions it mounts a Valjoux 72B or 722 movement, while on some models of the latest productions the caliber 722/1 is introduced, choosing as always the best the market could offer.
It has been many years now that watches have had major revaluations, for some time now people, seeing the results of auctions and market trends, have realized that watches are also a form of investment.
All this, makes these items more and more valuable and difficult to be found.
We enclose a photo of the watch and, as is our wont, illustrate with a graph the trend in value over the various years, showing the cost that the object had originally and the price that corresponds to today, we also point out how much over the years it has revalued.

The watch in question, for a standard model, cost about 120,000 Lira in 1965, corresponding to today's purchasing power of €1,238.75.
To date it has reached a value of €60,000, about 50 times higher than the initial figure.

This shows the great appreciation and therefore great investment that this watch has made.
