Carbon and control: the new measure of time according to Tudor

The Black Bay Chrono "Carbon 25" was born out of a collaboration with the Racing Bulls Formula 1 team and interprets the brand's historical connection with motorsport in a technical and lightweight way

Tudor's Black Bay Chrono "Carbon 25" is a new limited-edition offering in the wake of the Swiss brand's long relationship with the world of motor racing. Introduced in 2025 and produced in 2,025 numbered pieces, this model adopts a redesigned 42 mm diameter carbon fiber case, a material also used for the end links of the hybrid rubber and leather strap. The case back and chronograph pushers, on the other hand, are made of titanium with a black PVD finish.

The overall design approach takes inspiration from the livery of the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls team, engaged in the Formula 1 world championship with drivers Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar. On the matte white domed dial, Tudor applies two concave black carbon fiber subdials measuring 45 minutes and small seconds, while the date is placed at six o'clock.

The angular "Snowflake" hands, first introduced in 1969, are featured here with a black profile and luminescent filling to ensure visibility in all light conditions.

The movement used is the manufacture chronograph caliber MT5813, a self-winding mechanical movement with column wheel and vertical clutch. It offers a power reserve of about 70 hours and is equipped with an antimagnetic silicon balance spring.

The movement is chronometer-certified by the COSC, but Tudor applies its own more restrictive internal accuracy standard on the finished product of -2/+4 seconds per day. The mechanical base is derived from the Breitling caliber B01, but the regulator module and finishing are independently developed by Tudor.

The watch employs a domed sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 200 meters.

The fixed bezel, in a single block of carbon fiber, features an engraved tachymeter scale, useful for measuring average speed over a known distance. The set of technical solutions adopted for this model tends to reduce the overall weight and favor ergonomics on the wrist, a relevant aspect in a chronograph designed to beworn in dynamic situations.

Tudor's connection to motor sports dates back to the 1950s, when the brand began sponsoring racing vehicles and teams, including the Porsche 906 in Japan in the 1960s.

The new "Carbon 25" edition maintains this spirit of collaboration, adopting a design language consistent with the Racing Bulls team's visual identity. Individual numbering on the titanium caseback reinforces the exclusive character of the series.

The chronograph's construction features reflect the quality standards of the Tudor manufacture, located in Le Locle, Switzerland, which opened in 2021 and is directly connected to the Kenissi production facility, where the movements are made. Here, components are assembled and tested according to automated and manual procedures, with direct control over the industrial supply chain.

The watch comes with a five-year, transferable international warranty with no registration or periodic maintenance requirements. However, the brand recommends an overhaul around ten years, varying according to use.

Aesthetically recognizable but technically updated, the Black Bay Chrono "Carbon 25" represents a sporty extension of the Black Bay collection that began with the first Tudor Oysterdate chronograph in 1970. While sharing some stylistic codes with that historic model, the new chronograph adopts contemporary materials and technologies that update its function and redefine its identity.

The clear dial with dark details recalls the palettes of racing instruments, while the strap with a tread-inspired motif reinforces the symbolic connection to the track. The price in Italy, including VAT, is 7,510 euros.

The Black Bay Chrono "Carbon 25" interprets time as a measurable element but also as an experiential dimension in which technical performance confronts style, history, and movement.
